AnnouncementsA Message From The Ministerial Search CommitteeThe Ministerial Search Committee is pleased to announce that Patty Hanneman is our candidate for Parish Minister. We will be hosting several socials so everyone has a chance to meet and get more aquainted with Patty. Please keep the following dates open: Feburary 26th, 27th and 28th. UUCH's own Jean-Michel Margot regularly leads geological hikes on Occoneechee Mountain outside Hillsborough. To sign up for a future hike, click here, and for more information about the Mountain, click here. (back to top) Volunteers needed for RE We are still in need of volunteers for RE and nursery. Volunteering is easy and requires no preparation. If you are interested, please sign up outside the RE or nursery doors. If you have any questions on what is involved, contact Barbara Cain. Sunday Brunch We will be having our monthly Sunday brunch on February 7th, 2010. After our feast we will be taking questions from the congregation for Patty Hanneman. Paper and pens will be provided during the brunch for you to write down your question for Patty. This is for everyone to become more familiar with Patty as our Parish Minister Candidate. Secret Pal Event The RE Committee is sponsoring the "Secret Pal" event again this year, in hopes of developing connections between adults and children in our congregation. "Secret Pals" will run from February 14 through March 7. Children may sign up to get a "Secret Pal" soon. We need adults who are interested in being "Secret Pals" to our children; a sign up sheet will be posted and we will meet briefly with adult "pals" on February 7. The children will create paper bag "mailboxes" which will be hung in the Community Room for exchange of notes and small items between "pals". Children will discover the identities of their "Secret Pals" at the March 7 first Sunday Brunch, where there will be an area for "Secret Pals" to dine together. Come help us build community at UUCH! A Community Action Message on Immigration Your help is needed in contacting and informing Congressman Watt and Senator Hagan that you support this important legislation. The Uniting American Families Act (H.R. 1024/S. 424) - a bill that would allow LGBT Americans to sponsor their spouse or partner for an immigration benefit, with the same process and penalties as straight couples. As the 40th anniversary of Earth Day approaches, how better to refresh our understanding of the earth's dire situation and our best responses to it than to view this stunning classic, "The 11th Hour." Narrated and co-produced by Leonardo DiCaprio, the film is replete with scientific facts and alarming projections, but it also builds toward a hopeful future as we get to see what imaginative redesign can do. Describing The 11th Hour as a better mix of fear and inspiration, than An Inconvenient Truth, one Amazon reviewers says "DiCaprio's film makes me want to change the world." Commons Room of Care Bldg.
