AnnouncementsThe current chalice lighter call supports PEACE Fellowship as they move from being a 'church in a box' into their own home. They have bought 2.5 acres with a building in the Wake Forest corridor northeast of Raleigh. (How great is that?) Now they need support to bring the building up to code and turn it into a church.UUCH has had two chalice lighter calls: one to help build our current home and one to support our first minister. What is Chalice Lighter? "A Chalice Lighter is a person, a couple, or even a group of people who pledges to respond with a contribution when the call comes that it's time to light a chalice within the Thomas Jefferson District. Calls support specific growth initiatives in individual TJ District congregations." (http://www.tjdistrict.org/chalicelighters.html) Check out this website for more information. Typical donations are no more than $15-20 per family but many UU families participate. This call ends on August 31, 2010. Volunteering is easy and requires no preparation. If you are interested, please sign up outside the RE or nursery doors. If you have any questions on what is involved, contact Barbara Cain. A Community Action Message on Immigration Your help is needed in contacting and informing Congressman Watt and Senator Hagan that you support this important legislation. The Uniting American Families Act (H.R. 1024/S. 424) - a bill that would allow LGBT Americans to sponsor their spouse or partner for an immigration benefit, with the same process and penalties as straight couples.
